Assistant Pastor

Pastor John and Rhonda Rempel

Pastor Rempel grew up in the Winkler area and was familiar from an early age with Christian teachings, traditions, and the things of God. While that Christian influence was a blessing and gave him an understanding of biblical truth, he came to realize that simply being familiar with Christianity could not save his soul.

In his mid-twenties, God began working in his heart through the testimony of two co-workers and the Gospel preaching of Pembina Valley Baptist Church. On October 19, 1997, Pastor Rempel trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. That day marked the beginning of a new life—not only receiving the gift of eternal life, but also discovering a new purpose and direction through Christ.

From that point forward, the Lord faithfully led Pastor Rempel one step at a time. Through a series of providential circumstances, God brought his wife, Rhonda, into his life, and together they began building a family. The Lord then led them to Canadian Baptist Bible College, where Pastor Rempel prepared for a life of ministry. As their family continued to grow, so did their understanding of God’s leading for their lives.

Pastor Rempel graduated in 2008 and soon moved with his family to Southern Ontario, where he accepted the pastorate of Mission Baptist Church in Brownsville, Ontario. For ten years, he and his family had the privilege of serving the Lord and ministering to the people of that community.

In September 2018, God brought them and their five children back home to Winkler, where it has been a great privilege for Pastor Rempel to serve at Pembina Valley Baptist Church. Since returning, he has been involved in many areas of ministry. He serves as the Sunday School superintendent, teaches various classes at Canadian Baptist Bible College, teaches the Honeymooners’ class on Sunday mornings, and helps with special event planning.

Looking back over the years, Pastor Rempel is deeply grateful for the unmistakable hand of God in his life and family. In his own words:

“It certainly has been a marvellous work of God’s grace that has allowed me the privilege of preaching and ministering the glad tidings of Christ in our great country of Canada. My desire is to see many more souls reached with the Gospel in our community and around the world.”
